Welcome to Our Bookshop

Located in the heart of the historic market town of Mold (Yr Wyddgrug), we have been sharing our passion for books and storytelling with the local community for 45 years. Since opening our doors in 1981, we have remained committed to connecting readers with great stories, becoming a much-loved destination for book lovers of all ages.

In 2026, we proudly celebrate 45 years of bookselling. From our beginnings in a tiny shop beside The Cross to our move to our current home on Upper High Street in 1993, we have continued to champion the joy of reading and the importance of independent bookselling.

Customers are often amazed by the range of books we stock. From bestselling fiction and thought-provoking non-fiction to a dedicated children’s section, signed copies, and beautiful special editions, there is something for every reader. We also offer a fast, friendly book-ordering service and host regular events featuring some truly wonderful authors.

While we recognise the importance and the benefits of the online world, we remain proud to be a traditional bricks-and-mortar bookshop where people can browse, discover, and talk about books. As a community bookshop, we have welcomed generations of readers, with many customers who first visited as children now bringing in their own families.

We have been nominated for numerous awards, including Independent Bookshop of the Year at the The British Book Awards 2026, where we were among the Wales finalists.

As part of the National Year of Reading, we were delighted to receive a Penguin Random House Bookshop Grant. This funding will help us share our love of reading with more people in rural and low-income communities across the region.

The grant will enable us to take authors into schools that would not normally have the opportunity to host author events, giving children and young people the opportunity to engage with writers. We will also work in partnership with Gwella Libraries to develop reading cafés that encourage parents and guardians to read with their children, helping to foster a lifelong love of books and literacy within families.

Mold is situated in the Alyn Valley at the base of the Clwydian Range, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty.

The Offa’s Dyke Path and the Wales Coast Path are nearby, as are the popular destinations of Moel Famau Country Park and Loggerheads Country Park.

Our selection of local history books reflects Mold’s fascinating history.

The 3,000 year old Gold Cape, which is now on display in The British Museum was found here in the 19th century. A replica is on display in the local library. For more information see this ITV News piece and this article on the Curious Clwyd website.)

The town’s beautiful St. Mary’s Church was commissioned by Margaret Beaufort, the wife of Thomas Stanley, Lord Mold, to commemorate the victory of her son Henry Tudor at the battle of Bosworth.

Our rich heritage has inspired many local historians to write about the area’s history and we are always happy to help them promote their titles.
